Established in 1831, NYU was founded with the vision of being a universitet that is "in and of any city," specifically New York. Unlike traditional campuses, its main hub in Washington Square Park has been integrated into the fabric of Manhattan since the mid-19th century. In 2010 and 2014, NYU expanded globally by opening full degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.
